On the afternoon of February 20th, almost 1000 villagers in Yunfu town in Guangdong province came out to protests against the government’s construction of a waste treatment plant causing environmental pollution.
Villagers had petitioned the town government to cancel the construction, but on not receiving a satisfactory reply, they came out to protest at the government office building. A major road and crossroads in the town centre were also blocked.
